“Psychedelic trance or psytrance is a form of electronic music characterized by hypnotic arrangements of synthetic rhythms and mesmerizing melodies. It first broke out into the mainstream in 1995 as the UK music press began to report on the exploding trend of Goa trance. Since then the genre has diversified immensely and now offers considerable variety in terms of mood, tempo, and style. Some examples include melodic, full on, dark, progressive, suomi, psybreaks and psybient.
The original Goa trance (or “old school”) was often made with popular Modular synthesizers and hardware samplers, but modern psychedelic trance is typically made with VST and AU software sampler applications. The use of analog synthesizers for sound synthesis has given way to digital “virtual analog” instruments like the Nord Lead, Access Virus, Korg MS-2000, Roland JP-8000 and computer VST and AU plugins like Native Instruments Reaktor. These are usually controlled by MIDI sequencers. Emphasis is placed on purely synthesized timbres for programming and lead melodies. Tempos range across the spectrum depending on the style and approach speeds between 140 and 150 BPM are most common.” Wikipedia says.
DJ Divovlas {Kamasutra Psytrance}
Divovlas is interested in psychedelic music since 1999, later in 2001 he joined Baern and Rattkin and the group called Kamasutra Psytrance has started. Baern and Rattkin did already some public acid-psychedelic-ethno performances before, most famous is their project Psygeridoo together with Honza Látal, the didgeridoo player. More about this stage is described on Baern’s website (www.baern.info - in Czech).
KP has been pioneering psytrance music in Ceske Budejovice and in the area of South Bohemia. In the beginning, it wasn’t easy to find among youngsters, used to house and techno styles on one hand and d’n'b on the other, any psychedelic fan, so often the party was attended by friends only. In past few year electronic parties become much more popular in the South, so the psytrance parties fortunately no more lacks visitors.
The biggest success of Kamasutra Psytrance group was undoubtedly organisation of Protipivin 2008 psytrance openair festival, together with Osku from Goblin records and few other volunteers. Protipivin, despite the fact it was first KP’s event of such size, was rated as one of best free-parties of that summer.
Divovlas belongs to that group of DJ’s who prefer playing from computer instead of classical CD decks. This brings instantly some features, which are difficult to reach with decks, ex. track jumping, wider spectrum of filter effects or faster selecting and prelistening of larger amount of tracks.

Parties
In 2009 season you can hear DJ Divovlas quite rarely, mostly on tuesday psytrance nights in Prague’s club Styx. But there is still many of good psytrance out, for most actual list of psychedelic parties in Czech republic go to psytrance.cz website!
